I Am by Dr. Sophelia P. Kelly, Ph.D.
May you hear God saying the following words to each of you:
I am your hope above all other voices you encounter throughout the day.
I am reaching out to you with both hands, ready to hold onto you.
I am the one who will carry all your burdens and set you free.
I am the hope that will fill your emptiness,
For hope is an unbreakable spiritual bond between us.
I am the God of hope who will fill you with joy and peace beyond your understanding.
Trust in Me, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I am the God of Moses, Abraham, and David.
So too, I am your God.
I am the one who delivered Moses' people, as well as the tribes of Abraham and David.
So too, will I deliver you from your wilderness.
I am the one who says, "This is the day that I have created, be blessed, and my light will shine over you."
This we pray, in Jesus' name, Amen
I wrote the above poem at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The year was 2020, and my role as a psycho-social clinical expert required that I continue to work during the pandemic. Daily, I drove the freeways and was the only car for miles. Additionally, everywhere I went, people expressed their concerns about COVID-19 and the potential biblical ramifications. Some of my patients stated, "We are living in the end times." Other patients would lament that we were living "in the time of Revelations." Some of the families I visited expressed their fears that God was angry with humanity and Covid-19 was His way of making society "Be still and know God." Everyone expected me to have the magic answers to their fears and concerns. When I attended our staff meetings, I encountered the same sentiments. Most of my hospice patients struggled with the isolation from their families and friends. Ultimately, the weight broke me down to my knees. While in submission to God, I heard the words written in the above poem. God spoke to my soul and gave me the words to give to my patients, their families, and my peers. From that moment onwards, I carried the poem with me so that I could encourage the people who leaned on my spirituality and faith. This poem is just a sample of the essence of Epiphany Spiritual Care Consultancy, LLC.
